[Dominic W Massaro] -- This book discusses the author's experiments on the use of multiple cues in speech perception and other areas and unifies the results through a logical model of perception. The book is accompanied by a CD-ROM which contains a series of demonstrations relating to many of the topics dealt with.

The book is divided into four main sections. Section 1, "Perceiving Talking Faces", focuses on the perception of speech by ear and eye. More than 50 years after the appearance of the motor theory of speech perception, it is timely to evaluate its three main claims that (1) speech processing is special, (2) perceiving speech is perceiving gestures, and (3) the motor system is recruited for perceiving speech.
